The City of Pembroke Pines-Florida State University Charter Elementary School hosts the Center for Children with Autism, a specialized multi-grade level program designed to support students’ academic and social development. Instruction takes place in a small group setting with one teacher and an aide, ensuring individualized attention and targeted support.
The program emphasizes curriculum standards, social skills, and sensory processing while fostering both academic growth and social development. Students also benefit from additional support services as needed, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and access to mental health professionals.
To promote inclusion and peer relationships, students enrolled in the program participate in general education settings for lunch, special events, field trips, and special area classes.. This balance of individualized instruction and inclusive experiences helps students gain the tools and confidence needed to successfully transition into the least restrictive environment possible.
